European Beech

This 180+ year old European copper beech was planted on the Edward King estate in Newport, RI and was voted the Newport Tree of the Year in 2012. A combination of  its old age, a root pathogen and a very rough winter led to this landmark tree's demise when it was cut down for safety reasons in 2013.

Thankfully, this piece of history now has a chance to live on for years to come. We have two logs from this tree. One was milled at 12/4 x 32"-40" x 8'  and the other was milled at 10/4 - 16/4 x 45"-58" x 12'.

Black Walnut

This black walnut was cut locally in Rhode Island. It was air dried and then finished in the kiln (no steam kiln drying). This batch measures 4/4 x 8"-9" x 8'-10'.  A new log milled at 6/4 x 18"-22" x 12' will be ready soon!

Catalpa

This catalpa tree was cut locally in Rhode Island. It has a warm, evenly colored grain and resembles butternut when finished.
These slabs consist of 6 of the 8 slabs from the full flitch and measure 8/4 x 12' x 16"-21".

Cherry

This cherry tree was chopped locally in Rhode Island. All boards were cut from the same tree and have a warm consistant cherry color with no sapwood. This batch measures 4/4 x 7"-14" x 8'-10'.

American Elm

This elm tree was grown, milled and dried within a one mile radius here in West Kingston, RI. One log was milled at 12/4 x 22-36" x 6' and the other was milled at 12/4 - 16/4 x 18"-32" x 8'.
We also have two beautifully curved limbs of American elm. These unique slabs speak for themselves. They were milled at 6/4 and 8/4 and measure 12"-16" x 6'-9' along the curve.

Figured Maple

We have a wide variety of spalted and burly maple slabs. They range in shape and size from 4/4 - 16/4 thick, 12"-24" wide and 1'-9' long. This maple tree was grown, milled and dried within a two mile radius here in West Kingston, RI.

English Oak

We are really excited about the English oak we have coming up. A darker relative of white oak, it displays the same ray fleck when quartersawn.  It is a very popular wood for furniture restoration and boatbuilding. This particular tree was 36" wide at the base.

Reclaimed Lumber

LB Lumber stocks a wide variety of reclaimed lumber taken from local barns, houses and mills. We stock hand hewn beams as well as rough-sawn beams and dimensional lumber in a variety of species, grades and sizes. Currently we have American chestnut, white oak, white pine, heart pine and fir. We also have pre-cut hand hewn mantles and a variety of other reclaimed wood products for sale.

Coming Soon:

We have a lot of material waiting to be milled, and in the drying process. Upcoming inventory includes more European beech, black walnut, English oak, white oak, American elm, cherry and figured maple.
